A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Reverend Dr. Nathaniel Irvin, Sr., on the occasion of his 50th pastoral anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Nathaniel Irvin, Sr., has devoted 50 years to preaching the Word of God and leading his community; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Irvin graduated from the Haines Institute and began his education at South Carolina State College, leaving to enter the United States Army in 1950; and

WHEREAS, after serving as a guardian of the nation's liberty and freedom, Reverend Irvin returned to South Carolina State College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in social studies and a master's degree in education; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Irvin received his call to the ministry in 1956 and served with faith and devotion as pastor of Greater Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church for over 20 years and has currently served as pastor of Old Storm Branch Baptist Church for nearly 30 years; and

WHEREAS, during his leadership of Old Storm, the church has seen many great accomplishments, including the creation of a youth department, a family life center, and a new child development center; and

WHEREAS, active in his community as well as his faith, Reverend Irvin has been involved in such organizations as the Storm Branch Missionary Baptist Association, the Augusta Baptist Minister Conference, the Martin Luther King Survival Coalition, University Hospital, and Morris College Board of Trustees; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Irvin is united in love and marriage to Eugenia Irvin, and the couple has been blessed with three remarkable and loving children, Nathaniel Irvin II, Thomas, and Cheryl, and three delightful grandchildren, Nathaniel Irvin III, Jovian, and Roman; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Irvin's many achievements will stand as symbols of dignity, pride, and honor for his congregation and the citizens of this state for generations to come.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that Dr. Nathaniel Irvin, Sr., is hereby congratulated on the wonderful occasion of his 50th pastoral anniversary and commended for the leadership and guidance he has provided the members of his church and the surrounding community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Nathaniel Irvin, Sr.
