A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the Honorable Larry Walker and inviting him to be recognized by the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Honorable Larry Walker is a respected and highly regarded former member of
the Georgia General Assembly serving from 1972 to 2004; and
WHEREAS,
he served as the Georgia House of Representatives Administrative Floor Leader
for Governor Joe Frank Harris, was elected House Majority Leader in 1986, and
served as the chairman of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation;
and
WHEREAS,
Representative Walker was elected to serve on the Department of Transportation
Board and was appointed in 2009 by Governor Sonny Perdue to serve on the
University System of Georgia Board of Regents; and
WHEREAS,
Representative Walker is a true Georgian, being born and raised in middle
Georgia, becoming a "double dawg" by getting his undergraduate and law degrees
from the University of Georgia, and living and practicing law in Perry all of
his adult life; and
WHEREAS,
he has been a regular columnist in the
Houston Home
Journal and
James
Magazine and is a prolific reader;
and
WHEREAS,
it is only appropriate that Representative Walker would pen a book about
Georgia, his family and friends, "everything Southern," reading, and, of course,
politics and entitle the book
Life on the Gnat
Line; and
WHEREAS,
in his farewell remarks to the Georgia General Assembly, Representative Walker
cautioned that he may write a book and include stories about his legislative
friends; and
WHEREAS,
Life on the Gnat
Line inspires us to value relationships
and to meet the challenges we face as the "Old South" fades into the "New South"
by constantly being reminded of the hopes and dreams of the past.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Honorable Larry Walker on his many outstanding
achievements and invite him and his wife, Janice, to be recognized by the House
of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the
House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Honorable
Larry Walker.
