A RESOLUTION


Recognizing the sport of Power Soccer, the United States Power Soccer Association, and the 2009 Division II Southeastern League Champions, the North Georgia Screamin' Eagles; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the sport of Power Soccer or Power Chair Football was invented in France in the 1970's, introduced to the United States in the 1980's, and has become the fastest growing sport for power chair users, with teams in 16 states and nine countries; and

WHEREAS, Power Soccer is the only sport for people with severe disabilities no matter what age or gender; and

WHEREAS, the United States Power Soccer Association was created by a group of dedicated individuals to govern and promote the sport of Power Soccer; issue referee certifications; conduct regional, national, and international tournament play; and sponsor Team USA; and

WHEREAS, Team USA is the reigning World Cup champions, having beaten France in sudden death overtime in Tokyo, Japan, in 2007; and

WHEREAS, the North Georgia Screamin' Eagles Power Soccer team based out of Flowery Branch, Georgia, completed their 2009 season with a 19-5-1 record, earned the title of USPSA Southeastern League Champions, and finished fifth in the country; and

WHEREAS, this season the team has a 15-1-1 record, is leading the Southeastern League in Division II, and will be competing for the National Championship in Fishers, Indiana, June 17-19, 2010; and

WHEREAS, other teams from Georgia competing in the Southeastern League include the Carroll County Dominators, Atlanta Tigers, Atlanta Synergy, and the Shepherd Strikers; and
WHEREAS, through perseverance and unyielding dedication and determination, disabled athletes practice good sportsmanship and teamwork to accomplish one goal.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the United States Power Soccer Association and all the teams in the Southeastern Power Soccer League for their unparalleled achievements and congratulate the players and coaches of the 2009 North Georgia Screamin' Eagles on their championship title.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the United States Power Soccer Association and the North Georgia Screamin' Eagles.
