RESOLUTION
Commending
Michael Morgan; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Michael Morgan has served Central Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, Georgia, for
over 30 years. He also serves as the seminary musician for Columbia Theological
Seminary where he often lectures on the Psalms and their use in worship, as well
as other aspects of worship; and
WHEREAS,
Michael is a leading expert on the publication of the Bible in English and has
one of the most extensive collections of English Bibles and of Psalters in the
world; and
WHEREAS,
he is author of Psalms
for Christian Worship, a collection of
metric paraphrases of all 150 Psalms, set to familiar hymn tunes. This gift to
the church enables congregations of all sizes to sing the ancient songs of the
church in regular worship. A new edition is being published in 2010, with the
Psalms set in traditional and contemporary language; and
WHEREAS,
as an organist, he has extensive experience having received his education at
Grace Cathedral, Florida State University, and Clark Atlanta University;
and
WHEREAS,
his professional affiliations include the American Guild of Organists, Atlanta
Chapter; Presbyterian Association of Musicians; and the Hymn Society of the
United States and Canada; and
WHEREAS,
he has given recitals and played in services and festivals internationally and
nationally, as well as lecturing nationally and internationally on the subject
of the organ, worship, and hymnody; and
WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that he be recognized by this body.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Michael Morgan for his outstanding talent and for his faithful
service to his church and his community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Michael
Morgan.
