A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Carolyn Lee Hart on the occasion of her retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Carolyn Lee Hart has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in the teaching profession and her deep personal commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Hart has dedicated an amazing 43 years to molding young minds and challenging students to achieve their utmost potential through her work in the field of education; and

WHEREAS, she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Livingston College, a master's degree in reading and secondary education from Atlanta University, and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Clark-Atlanta University; and

WHEREAS, she has enriched and improved the lives of countless future leaders through her dedicated service as Special Assistant to the Deputy Superintendent; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Hart began her prestigious career in education in 1967 as a Project Headstart and first grade teacher at English Avenue Primary School, and over the last five decades has served in numerous positions including as a reading teacher at Ralph Bunche Middle School and Brown High School and president of the Georgia Association of Educators; and

WHEREAS, her leadership and guidance have been instrumental to numerous professional organizations, including the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, and Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., and as the Chairperson of the Fulton County Schools Advisory Board and the Chairperson of the Legislative Committee for the Georgia Association of Educators; and
WHEREAS, she has been an active member of the National Education Association, where she has served as a trainer with the Women's Leadership Training Program, a member of the Human and Civil Rights Committee and the Women's Issues Committee, and a state delegate; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Hart has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades, including Missionary of the Year in 2007, Atlanta Public Schools' Teacher of the Year in 1986-1987, and 1987 Oustanding Atlantan from the Atlanta Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Ms. Carolyn Lee Hart for her decades of sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia; recognize the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state; and congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Carolyn Lee Hart.
