RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. William Wesley Taylor, Lowndes High School Principal; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. William Wesley "Wes" Taylor has served as the principal of Lowndes High
School in Valdosta, Georgia, since 2003; and
WHEREAS,
as principal, he has numerous accomplishments and been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades, including selection as 2010-2011 Principal of the Year by
the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals, 2009 Leadership Lowndes
Graduate, and a finalist for 2009 Secondary Educator of the Year by the Georgia
Association of Educational Leaders; recipient of the 2008 Distinguished
Principal Award by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals;
appointee to the 2008 State School Superintendent's Principal Advisory Council;
and 2007 graduate of the Georgia School Superintendents Association's
Superintendent Professional Development Program; and
WHEREAS,
during Mr. Taylor's tenure as principal of Lowndes High School, the school was
chosen as a Showcase School by the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in
Education in 2008, was selected by the Professional Association of Georgia
Educators to participate in the High School Redesign Initiative in 2008, was
recognized as a Distinguished School by the Community Partners in Education in
2008 and 2009, and received Accreditation with Distinction from the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools in 2007; and
WHEREAS,
academically, the school has increased its graduation rate by 13 percentage
points over the last five years, increased the passage rate for the Georgia High
School Graduation Test, increased the number of students enrolled in Advanced
Placement courses, increased the number of students scoring three or higher on
Advanced Placement exams, and consistently maintained End-of-Course Test scores
above state averages; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Taylor's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in education
from the University of Georgia, a master's degree in education from Georgia
Southwestern State University, and an education specialist's degree from Florida
State University; and his previous work experience includes principal of Lee
County High School in Leesburg, Georgia, principal of Chipley High School in
Chipley, Florida, and principal of Port St. Joe High School in Port St. Joe,
Florida; and
WHEREAS,
recognition is appropriate for Mr. Taylor's hard work, professionalism, and
selfless dedication to the education of young people; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Taylor is a shining example of the quality educators committed to public
education both in Valdosta and the State of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body hereby recognize, commend, and congratulate Mr. William Wesley Taylor
upon his work as principal of Lowndes High School and express their gratitude
for the great credit this fine educator reflects upon Valdosta and the State of
Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. William
Wesley Taylor.
