A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending 24th Annual Heart of the Community Award Winners Pete Roberts and the late Mary Lee Roberts; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Pete Roberts and the late Mrs. Mary Lee Roberts have a reputation for community service and selfless dedication to others that has been recognized by the Heart of the Community Foundation, Inc., and the Redmond Regional Medical Center with their honor as 2010 Heart of the Community Award winners; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1987, the Heart of the Community Foundation Award honors community leaders, with 157 individuals recognized for their altruistic service over the last 24 years; and

WHEREAS, the Heart of the Community Foundation has raised over $500,000.00 for the support of local heart related activities, community education, and local charities; and

WHEREAS, the 2010 Heart of the Community Award recipients will have donations made to a local charity in their honor; and

WHEREAS, community leaders, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts volunteered in the greater Rome area since their arrival to the city in the 1980's; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Roberts has been active with the Rome Rotary Club, Berry College Board of Trustees, SunTrust Bank of Northwest Georgia Board of Directors, the United Way of Rome, the Darlington School, Redmond Regional Hospital, and First Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, prior to her passing in 2008, Mrs. Roberts served as a Floyd Medical Center and Red Cross volunteer, a tour guide for Myrtle Hill Tours, and a member of the Darlington School's Mother's Club, the Saddle Mountain Association Board of Directors, and First Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, the benevolent and honorable deeds of this charitable couple serve as a shining example of volunteerism.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Pete Roberts and the late Mrs. Mary Lee Roberts on their outstanding community service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Pete Roberts.
