A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. William Harris Sutton; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. William Harris Sutton on January 21, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sutton was born on March 9, 1921, in Rochelle, Georgia, a beloved son of the late Baxter Sutton and Gertrude Harris Sutton; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty in the Army Air Corps, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans during World War II; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Sutton was an active member of Central Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, he was a member of the Merrymakers, Ware County Exchange Club, the Okefenokee Lion's Club, and the Ware County Republican Party; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sutton was united in love and marriage to Sue Jones Sutton and was blessed with five remarkable children, Billie Smith, Frances Gattis, Lonnie Harris Sutton, Dr. Roy Sutton, and Bob Sutton, ten wonderful grandchildren, five adored great-grandchildren, and a breathtaking great-great-grandson; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Sutton will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. William Harris Sutton and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. William Harris Sutton.
