RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Dr. Ralph L. Buice; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with
the passing of Dr. Ralph L. Buice, Jr., on February 24, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
he was a 39-year veteran of Fernbank Science Center and the DeKalb County School
System; and
WHEREAS,
as a chemistry instructor, he inspired hundreds of students in Independent Study
Classes, the Scientific Tools and Techniques Program, and other Fernbank study
programs; and
WHEREAS,
in recent years he served as mentor to teachers and worked with students doing
independent research projects, and he was instrumental in developing the
partnership with NASA's Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Aerospace Academy
at the science center; and
WHEREAS,
he enjoyed traveling and often took guests with him on his adventures throughout
the world; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Buice is survived by his brother, Rick Buice; sister-in-law Fran Buice;
nieces Kristi and Elizabeth Buice; and other family and many
friends.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express regret at the passing of Dr. Ralph L. Buice, convey
condolences to his grieving family and friends, and join in honoring the life
and memory of Dr. Ralph L. Buice and in expressing their appreciation for his
dedicated public service to science and to education.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Dr. Ralph L. Buice, and to Fernbank Science Center.
