A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Lee and Gordon Greens; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Lee and Gordon Greens is a hydroponic greenhouse located in Chickamauga,
Georgia, that provides the highest quality produce year-round; and
WHEREAS,
with a 5,600 square foot greenhouse, Lee and Gordon Greens has the capacity to
grow over 9,000 plants; and
WHEREAS,
under the guiding hands of owners Joan and Bob Jones, Lee and Gordon Greens
broke ground in April of 2008 and the first seeds were planted on September 24,
2008; and
WHEREAS,
Lee and Gordon Greens sells a variety of produce, including butter bibb, French
batavia, spectrum greens, mild mesclun, spring mix, romaine, large Italian leaf
Genovese basil, green curly leaf lettuce, red lollo rossa, oakleaf, red Russian
kale, tatsoi, mizuna, red oakleaf, and red romaine; and
WHEREAS,
Lee and Gordon Greens runs a community supported agriculture program which
provides participants with weekly deliveries of greens that are fresh, vibrant,
and delicious; and
WHEREAS,
this amazing greenhouse takes pride in educating the public about the importance
of eating locally grown produce and has established a Sprouts program that
educates third and fourth grade classes on hydroponic growing methods;
and
WHEREAS,
students in the Sprouts program plant a seed, are sent weekly e-mail updates on
their seedling's growth, and have the final product delivered to their classroom
approximately five weeks later; and
WHEREAS,
Joan Jones has authored a children's book
entitled My House Is a
Greenhouse which features Gordon the frog
who explains hydroponics, recycling, eating healthy, and supporting local farms
and farmers; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding people and produce of
Lee and Gordon Greens be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Lee and Gordon Greens for producing high quality hydroponic
lettuces and recognize the outstanding efforts of the owners and staff to
educate others about hydroponics and the importance of supporting local
farms.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lee and
Gordon Greens.
