A RESOLUTION


Recognizing May 25, 2010, as Africa Union Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the United States and the State of Georgia seeks to strengthen and foster stronger equitable partnerships with African professionals, institutions, and communities; and

WHEREAS, it is important to promote opportunities for international exchange, training, research, technology, knowledge transfer, information sharing, and arts and culture between the United States and Africa; and

WHEREAS, initiated by Chief Tunde Adetunji, founder and CEO of the Africa Heritage Foundation and Africa World Museum and Center, the purpose of Africa Union Day is to celebrate Georgia's affinity for African initiative, unity, and progress; and

WHEREAS, the 2010 African Union Day in Atlanta will celebrate and feature exhibition, parade, symposium, and seminars on Africa and will include the recognition of distinguished Africans, people of African descent, and those who make meaningful contributions to the development of Africa with awards and honors; and

WHEREAS, this exciting event will promote economic and cultural relations between the State of Georgia and the African Nation; and

WHEREAS, a continent with many possibilities, Africa has a rich cultural tapestry, with economic contributions and diversity; and

WHEREAS, the 2010 African Union Day serves as an opportunity to promote respect and support for the development of Africa and recognize the important cultural ties between the nation and this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize May 25, 2010, as Africa Union Day at the state capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the African Heritage Foundation.
