A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Kenneth S. Sajwan; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Kenneth S. Sajwan has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in higher education and his deep personal commitment to the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sajwan has dedicated 18 years to molding young minds and challenging students through his work as a professor and coordinator of the environmental science program at Savannah State University; and

WHEREAS, he earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture and animal husbandry from Pant University Agriculture and Technology and a master's degree in agronomy from J.N. Agriculture University in India; and

WHEREAS, prior to joining Savannah State University, Mr. Sajwan served as an assistant professor at the University of Georgia's Savannah River Ecology Laboratory and has postdoctoral associations with the University of Kentucky and the University of Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sajwan has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout his prestigious career, including the Richard Nicholson Excellence in Science Teaching Award which honors a teacher who demonstrates effective use of hands-on instructional techniques, successful integration of technology, effectiveness as a teacher, and the highest professional and curriculum standards; and

WHEREAS, a nationally recognized leading scholar and researcher in the field of environmental science, Mr. Sajwan has published over 100 works and served as speaker, session chair, and technical advisor at several national and international conferences; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sajwan received the 2004 National Science Teachers Association Distinguished Science Teacher Award, the 2003 Ernest L. Boyer International Award, the 2002 University System of Georgia Regents' Teaching Excellence Award, and the 2001 Millennium Award for Teaching and Research Excellence; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his contributions to higher education in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Mr. Kenneth S. Sajwan for his sacrifice, foresight, accomplishments, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Kenneth S. Sajwan.
