RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Gwen Marie Martin Cox; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Gwen Marie Martin Cox has been named Woman of the Year by Church Women
United, USA; and
WHEREAS,
founded in 1941, Church Women United is a multi-denominational group that is
composed of hundreds of women serving charitable causes throughout the United
States; and
WHEREAS,
Church Women United brings together women of diverse races, cultures, and
traditions through Christian fellowship, prayer, advocacy, and action for peace;
and
WHEREAS,
this outstanding organization is organized into over 1,200 local and state units
working for peace and justice in the United States and Puerto Rico, and members
are impassioned by the Holy Spirit to act on behalf of women and children
throughout the world; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Cox's leadership and vision have been instrumental to Church Women United as
secretary and communications officer for the Savannah chapter and as secretary
and nominations chairperson at the state level; and
WHEREAS,
an established leader with United Methodist Women (UMW), Ms. Cox is a member of
the Port Wentworth and Guyton units, currently serving as president of the
Guyton unit and has served as vice president, secretary, communications
coordinator, and in leadership positions in nominations, mission coordinators of
spiritual growth, education and interpretation, membership nurture and outreach,
and program resources; and
WHEREAS,
at the district level of UMW, Ms. Cox has served as secretary of program
resources, vice president, and president;
and
WHEREAS, Ms. Cox is the former secretary of program resources for the conference UMW and the current communications coordinator; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Cox is the former secretary of program resources for the conference UMW and the current communications coordinator; and
WHEREAS,
her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience
and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the
citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her
colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Cox is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Ms. Gwen Marie Martin Cox for her efficient, effective,
unselfish, and dedicated service to others and congratulate her on being named
Woman of the Year by Church Women United, USA.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Gwen
Marie Martin Cox.
