A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the 194th Armored Brigade; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, the 194th Armored Brigade recently completed its move from Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Fort Benning, Georgia, as part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the 194th Armored Brigade is to transform volunteers into disciplined, fit, and competent scouts, tankers, and mechanics ready to contribute as a member of a team that will fight and win the nation's wars; and

WHEREAS, there are 580 assigned soldiers that annually train over 7,000 new soldiers to be tankers, scouts, Abrams Tank mechanics, and Bradley Fighting Vehicle mechanics; and

WHEREAS, the 194th Armored Brigade is the only unit in the Active Army that trains initial entry tankers, scouts, and Bradley and Abrams mechanics; and

WHEREAS, many of the graduating soldiers from the 194th Armored Brigade will report straight to units that will deploy to Afghanistan within months for continued combat actions; and

WHEREAS, the selfless and heroic actions of the 194th Armored Brigade and its trainees stand as a shining tribute to the strength of the human spirit, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of these remarkable and distinguished Georgians be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the 194th Armored Brigade for their strength, leadership, and courage in their willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representative is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Colonel Kevin MacWatters, Command Sergeant Major James Daniels, Major Deric Hawkins, Captain Steven Morelli, Sergeant First Class Michelle Garner, Sergeant Antonio Kyler, Staff Sergeant Michelle Schrader, and Specialist Lincoln Campbell.
