A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. James Edward Lackey, Sr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. James Edward Lackey, Sr., on January 20, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey was born on May 19, 1933, in Atlanta, Georgia, a beloved son of the late Annie Mae Lackey and Silas Lackey, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, he attended David T. Howard Elementary and High School and courageously served his country in the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Nornell Hudson, on December 10, 1950, and the two were blessed with six caring and devoted children; and

WHEREAS, a man with a true entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Lackey established several businesses after his time in the Air Force, including Opie's Restaurant, Tapo's Restaurant, and James Fine Foods; and

WHEREAS, during his life, Mr. Lackey was an active Mason, serving as a member of the Smooth Ashler Grand Lodge and a Shriner of the Arabia Temple #1; and

WHEREAS, in 2000, Mr. Lackey joined Temple of Prayer United Church of God in Christ and served as a church deacon; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey leaves behind his wife, six children, 27 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and countless other relatives, friends, and neighbors who will cherish his memory and keep their fond memories of good times shared close to their hearts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby joins in honoring the life and memory of Mr. James Edward Lackey, Sr., and expressing its appreciation of his devotion and dedication to his family and his many contributions to his community and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of James Edward Lackey, Sr.
