RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Davidson College men's basketball team on winning the
Southern Conference Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Davidson College men's basketball team earned an automatic bid in the NCAA
tournament through perseverance, determination, and dedication in a double
overtime 93-91 victory over Western Carolina University to capture the Southern
Conference Championship; and
WHEREAS,
Davidson College was founded in 1837 just north of Charlotte, North Carolina,
and prides itself as an independent liberal arts college with a thriving
basketball program; and
WHEREAS,
this is Davidson College's first NCAA berth since 2008 for the 2012 NCAA
tournament; and
WHEREAS,
the Davidson College men's basketball team finished their championship season
with a 14-2 overall record; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and
spirit of each member of the team and their superb offensive and defensive
talents; and
WHEREAS,
the team was led by the astute direction of Head Coach Bob McKillop who has been
named Coach of the Year for the seventh time; and
WHEREAS,
sophomore De'Mon Brooks scored 19 points in the championship game and has been
named Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition,
it is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Davidson College men's basketball team on their successful
season and congratulate the players and coaches on their Southern Conference
Championship win.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Davidson
College men's basketball team.
