RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Lighthouse Lymphedema Network; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Lymphedema is swelling in the body as the result of an accumulation of fluid in
body tissue which is caused by a genetic condition or the disruption of the
lymphatic system's ability to clean and filter lymph in the body;
and
WHEREAS,
Lymphedema can occur at any time in a person's life after an initial injury to
the lymphatic system; and
WHEREAS,
if this problem is not treated properly, it can progress and cause a high risk
of infection, result in expensive hospitalization and antibiotic treatments, and
lead to disability or death; and
WHEREAS,
Lymphedema requires life-long management, and proper treatment for Lymphedema
can greatly increase a patient's quality of life; and
WHEREAS,
the Lighthouse Lymphedema Network is a nonprofit organization of individuals who
are lymphedema patients, or who have an interest in lymphedema; and
WHEREAS,
the goal of the Lighthouse Lymphedema Network is to educate, promote awareness,
and provide support for lymphedema patients, the medical community, family and
caregivers, insurance companies, the general public, and lymphedema support
groups; and
WHEREAS,
the Lighthouse Lymphedema Network will visit the capitol on March 24, 2010, to
meet with legislators and their staff, educate the members of the General
Assembly and the public on living with Lymphedema, and bring hope and support to
Lymphedema sufferers and their
families.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the efforts of the Lighthouse Lymphedema Network to support and advocate on behalf of Lymphedema patients and welcome this fine organization to the state capitol.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the
Lighthouse Lymphedema Network.
