RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Nella Beatrice Mayweather; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Nella Beatrice Mayweather on August 19, 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Mayweather was born on September 25, 1916, in Sparta, Georgia, the beloved
daughter of the late Mack and Bertha Washington; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Mayweather was an active member of Good
Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and
on the usher board for numerous years, and was the oldest member of the
congregation; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Mayweather was united in love and marriage to the late Charlie Mayweather
and was blessed with seven remarkable children, Fred, Betty, Ethel, Lovie,
Alberta, Mary, and Louise; and
WHEREAS,
she was the proud grandmother of 40 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 16
great-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS,
fondly known as "MaDear" and "Granny," Mrs. Mayweather was an avid fan of the
Atlanta Braves and WWF Wrestling, loved to cook and bake, and was the
soft-spoken authoritarian of her family; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Mayweather assisted in the implementation of the Augusta Ushers' Union of
Georgia and served as the organization's secretary for over 30 years;
and
WHEREAS,
she was a member of the Augusta Chapter of the Eastern Stars, Daughters of Isis,
Crusaders #6, and KAABA #3 Masonic Organization for over 30 years;
and
WHEREAS,
she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she
demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Mayweather was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable
reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the
example she made of her life, she made this world a better place in which to
live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Mayweather will long be remembered for
her love of family and friendship, and this loyal mother, sister, grandmother,
aunt, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Nella Beatrice Mayweather
and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Nella Beatrice Mayweather.
