A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Dr. L. Wendell Carpenter; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Dr. L. Wendell Carpenter after an illustrious professional career; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Carpenter was born in Jasper, Florida, a beloved son of Lena Smith Carpenter Rhoden and James Henry Carpenter; and

WHEREAS, his acclaimed life resounded with his passions for study, music, books, sports, travel, and antiques, but all were secondary to his love and support for his wife and children; and

WHEREAS, he earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Florida State University, two master's degrees in religious education and church music from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in music education from Florida State; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Carpenter was united in love and marriage to his wife, Marguerite, for 51 years and was blessed with two remarkable children, Susan Carpenter Beasley and Cris Howell Carpenter, and seven wonderful grandchildren, Ashley, Jimmy, Brad, and John Beasley and Liza, Sam, and Margaret Carpenter; and

WHEREAS, his professional life reflected deep personal commitments and formal academic training as his faith and career were symphonically paralleled; and

WHEREAS, he was one of the most accomplished musicians in his community and of his time; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Dr. Carpenter will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Dr. L. Wendell Carpenter and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr. L. Wendell Carpenter.
