RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Tony Tanner; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Tony Tanner has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that he has played in the teaching profession and his deep personal
commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Tanner has dedicated an amazing 30 years to molding young minds and
challenging students to achieve their utmost potential through his work in the
field of public education with the Jasper and Butts County School Systems;
and
WHEREAS,
he has served as principal at Washington Park Elementary School since 1994,
served as assistant principal at Butts County Elementary School, and served as a
teacher in Jasper County; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. Tanner earned a bachelor's degree and two
master's degrees from Georgia College and State University and a specialist
degree in education administration from the University of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
during Mr. Tanner's career in public education he was a guiding force both
inside the classroom and out, serving as a football and baseball coach and a
member of the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, Georgia Association of
Elementary School Principals, and the Professional Association of Georgia
Educators; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Tanner has accepted the position of headmaster at Piedmont Academy to begin
next school year, where he is sure to enrich the lives of countless more future
leaders in this state; and
WHEREAS,
a resident of Monticello, he is united in love and marriage to his wife, Lynn,
and has been blessed with two remarkable children;
and
WHEREAS, his passion for uplifting the lives of others through education and his unique gift of finding a balance between high academic expectations and genuine concern and care for his students serve as an example for all educators; and

WHEREAS,
in recognition of his contributions to the students in this state, it is
abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary
commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body heartily and gratefully commend Mr. Tony Tanner for his three decades
of sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of public
education in Georgia and extend to him best wishes in his new position with
Piedmont Academy.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Tony
Tanner.
