A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commend the Honorable Roger B. Lane upon his receipt of the 2010 Regents' Hall of Fame Award; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Roger B. Lane has been chosen to receive the 2010 Regents' Hall of Fame Award out of a group of 35 prestigious nominees from colleges and universities within the University System of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Representative Lane was chosen as the nominee from the College of Coastal Georgia for his role as a strong supporter of the school and the example he sets as an alumnus; and

WHEREAS, raised on a dairy farm in Townsend, Georgia, Representative Lane graduated from Darien High School and was involved in numerous extracurricular activities while attending College of Coastal Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he served as president of the student government association, a position in which he led a fundraising effort to raise money to purchase special signs for the entry roads to the college; and

WHEREAS, his interest in the political process was sparked while he was a student at College of Coastal Georgia, where he helped organize the first Young Republicans Club in the school's history; and

WHEREAS, after earning his associate's degree in business administration from College of Coastal Georgia, Representative Lane transferred to Georgia State University where he earned a bachelor's degree and later obtained a law degree from Mercer University; and

WHEREAS, he established a law practice in Brunswick in 1976 and over the years has earned a reputation as one of this nation's leading asbestos product liability experts, successfully handling numerous cases on the subject and securing compensation for thousands of victims of asbestos; and

WHEREAS, a leader in his community, Honorable Roger Lane served as trustee for Darien United Methodist Church, as State Court Solicitor for McIntosh County, and as a member of the Glynn County School Board, the Brunswick Glynn County Chamber of Commerce, and the board for St. Simons United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2004 to represent the citizens of District 167 in Glynn, Long, McIntosh, and Wayne counties; and

WHEREAS, Representative Lane is the college's first nominee to receive the Regents' Hall of Fame Award, and he represents the finest values and attributes to which the school and its students aspire.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Honorable Roger B. Lane for the vision and support he has provided College of Coastal Georgia and congratulate him on receiving the 2010 Regents' Hall of Fame Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Honorable Roger B. Lane.
