WHEREAS, the Georgia Department of Education and the College Board, which administers the AP Program, have had a long-standing partnership to build AP in the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Georgia had the tenth highest one-year increase of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam in 2010; and

WHEREAS, this figure represents 19.1 percent of the 2010 Georgia public high school senior class, making Georgia public schools 11th in the nation in the College Board Excellence and Equity measure; and

WHEREAS, Georgia is fifth in the nation when comparing the percentage of Georgia's African American students scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam to that of the nation's African American student average; and

WHEREAS, the percentage of Hispanic, American Indian, and white public school seniors leaving high school in 2010 with a score of a three or higher on at least one exam was equal to or greater than their respective peers across the nation, closing the Excellence and Equity gap for these students; and

WHEREAS, progress has been made in reducing the Excellence and Equity gap for African American and low-income students in Georgia public schools.
