A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the 2010 class of Leadership Sandy Springs; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Leadership Sandy Springs was founded in 1986 as a nonprofit organization to prepare leaders to take leadership positions within Sandy Springs; and

WHEREAS, one of the founding members of Leadership Sandy Springs was the Honorable Dorothy Felton, who served for many years in this House chamber; and

WHEREAS, the mission of Leadership Sandy Springs is to identify, educate, and develop Sandy Springs leaders and encourage their participation in addressing the needs of their community; and

WHEREAS, Leadership Sandy Springs conducts an annual class to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate in a planned series of program days and activities, to learn about the Sandy Springs area, to hear from decision makers, to interact with elected officials and community leaders, and to study issues facing businesses and the changing community of Sandy Springs; and

WHEREAS, since Leadership Sandy Springs's creation, the program has completed 30 annual class projects benefitting the city and graduated close to 600 individuals who are prepared to make the future their responsibility; and

WHEREAS, graduates of Leadership Sandy Springs have continued serving their community as elected officials, judges, government employees, members of city and community advisory councils, commissions and task forces, presidents and board members of nonprofit organizations, schools, and churches, and through ongoing volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, for the past eight years, Leadership Sandy Springs has conducted the annual Volunteer for a Better Sandy Springs Day, which has led to the completion of projects at 15 nonprofits, parks, and public schools annually with over 600 volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Leadership Sandy Springs is in its fifth year of presenting Sandy Springs Movies by Moonlight, a very successful outdoor movie series for families that promotes a sense of community; and

WHEREAS, through its many project initiatives, Leadership Sandy Springs has distinctively served the community and citizens of Sandy Springs and the many businesses and nonprofit organizations of the city.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Leadership Sandy Springs for its many accomplishments, commend the efforts of the 2010 class of Leadership Sandy Springs to make Sandy Springs a better place to live and work, and welcome the Class of 2010 to the state capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Leadership Sandy Springs.
