RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Lieutenant Colonel Janet A. Zimmerman; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Lieutenant Colonel Janet A. Zimmerman retired from the United States Army to
become the founding director of the Fort Gordon Youth ChalleNGe Academy and has
devoted the last 11 years to reclaiming Georgia's at-risk youths;
and
WHEREAS,
she was united in love and marriage to a retired Army officer and was blessed
with two remarkable daughters and three adored grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
since the opening of the program, it has doubled in size to graduate 400 cadets
each year and graduated its 10,000th successful young adult in 2011;
and
WHEREAS,
she has instrumentally piloted a high school diploma program with the Richmond
and Columbia County school systems for the Fort Gordon Youth ChalleNGe Academy
which provides at-risk students with the opportunity to pursue an alternative
route to high school completion and earn a regular diploma; and
WHEREAS,
Lieutenant Colonel Zimmerman has a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from
Campbell University and a Master of Education degree from Boston University;
and
WHEREAS,
in 2008, she received two Governors' recognition awards, an Accommodation for
Excellence in Customer Service and the Governor's Award for Individual
Excellence in Community Service; and
WHEREAS,
her significant organizational talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy,
her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of
this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and
associates; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the devotion and dedication of Lieutenant Colonel Janet A.
Zimmerman to the Fort Gordon Youth ChalleNGe Academy.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lieutenant
Colonel Janet A. Zimmerman.
