A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Joe David Jackson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Joe David Jackson in November, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was a graduate of the University of Georgia and Mercer Law School and served for several years as associate general counsel to the State Bar of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, known for his legal reasoning and sharp analytical skills, Mr. Jackson served as an Administrative Law Judge for the State Board of Workers' Compensation and, in 1992, joined the law firm of Goodman McGuffey Lindsey & Johnson, LLP as a partner; and

WHEREAS, he was known as a clear thinker and hard worker, as a man whose strong convictions were supported by meticulous research and careful consideration, and as an equitable, impartial leader whose decisions were governed by the rules of honesty and fair play; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Jackson was an active member of Cannon United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and assisted in the church's production of its Passion Play and the Walk to Emmaus; and

WHEREAS, his sense of humor brightened the lives of his friends and coworkers, with legendary practical jokes and holiday gag gifts; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was united in love and marriage to his adoring wife, Margaret, and was blessed with the love of three children, Maggie, Laura, and Charlie; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Jackson will long be remembered for his love of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, family, and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, neighbor, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Joe David Jackson and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Joe David Jackson.
