A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Article 1 of Chapter 1 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions regarding education, so as to mandate that each public school maintain an active recycling program; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Article 1 of Chapter 1 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions regarding education, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:
"20-1-10.
(a) For the purposes of this Code section, the term 'public school' means any school under the control and management of a county, independent, or area board of education supported by public funds and any school under the control and management of the State Board of Education or department or agency thereof supported by public funds.
(b) Prior to January 1, 2011, every public school shall put in place a program to recycle paper, recyclable metals, plastics, bottles, and any other materials the school determines can be recycled. A report outlining the program shall be submitted to the State Board of Education."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
