A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend an Act creating a new charter for the Town of Pulaski, approved April 9, 1999 (Ga. L. 1999, p. 3946), as amended, so as to reduce the number of councilmembers; to change the manner and method of filling vacancies; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
An Act creating a new charter for the Town of Pulaski, approved April 9, 1999 (Ga. L. 1999, p. 3946), as amended, is amended by revising Section 2.10, relating to the town council creation, number of members, and election, to read as follows:

"Section 2.10.
The legislative authority of the government of this town, except as otherwise specifically provided in this charter, shall be vested in a town council to be composed of a mayor and four councilmembers. The town council established in this charter shall in all respects be a successor to and continuation of the town governing authority under prior law. The mayor and councilmembers shall be elected in the manner provided by general law and in this charter. The mayor and councilmembers serving on the effective date of this section shall continue to serve for the remainder of their terms and until their successors are duly elected and qualified."

SECTION 2.
Said Act is further amended by revising subsection (b) of Section 2.12, relating to the filling of vacancies, to read as follows:
"(b) Filling of vacancies—A vacancy in the office of mayor or councilmember shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term by appointment as provided in Section 5.14 of this charter.
SECTION 3.
Said Act is further amended by revising Section 5.14, relating to special elections and vacancies, to read as follows:
"In the event that the office of mayor or councilmember shall become vacant as provided in Section 2.12 of this charter, the town council or those remaining shall appoint a successor for the remainder of the term."

SECTION 4.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
