BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Part 3 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to educational programs, so as to provide that the
Department of Education shall develop a model program for providing instruction
and training in the performing arts; to provide that local boards of education
shall incorporate a program in the performing arts in the curriculum; to repeal
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Part
3 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to educational programs, is amended by adding a new Code
section to read as follows:
"20-2-159.1.
Not
later than December 31, 2009, the Department of Education shall develop a model
program for providing instruction and training in the performing arts including,
without limitation, music, dance, and drama. Beginning with the 2010-2011
school year, each local board of education shall incorporate a program in the
performing arts in the curriculum as determined by each local board of
education."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
