A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To abolish the office of elected county surveyor of Oglethorpe County; to provide for the appointment of a county surveyor by the governing authority of the county; to provide for other matters relative to the foregoing; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Pursuant to the authority of Code Section 36-7-2.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, the office of elected county surveyor of Oglethorpe County is abolished. The governing authority of Oglethorpe County shall appoint a qualified person to hold the office of county surveyor for a term of one year from the date of appointment. Successors shall also be appointed for terms of one year. Any person appointed county surveyor shall possess the qualifications specified by paragraph (1) of subsection (b) of Code Section 36-7-2 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated.

SECTION 2.
(a) This Act shall become law upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.
(b) If there is an elected surveyor of Oglethorpe County holding office on the date this Act becomes law, then this Act shall become effective upon the expiration of the current term of office of the surveyor. If on the date this Act becomes law the office of surveyor is vacant or is held by a person appointed to the office, then this Act shall become effective upon the date it becomes law.

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
