BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Code Section 48-8-3 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to
exemptions regarding sales and use taxes, so as to provide for an exemption from
such taxes to certain reusable grocery bags; to provide for related matters; to
repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Code
Section 48-8-3 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to exemptions
regarding sales and use taxes, is amended by deleting "or" from the end of
paragraph (88), substituting "; or" for the period at the end of paragraph (89),
and adding a new paragraph to read as follows:
"(90)(A)
Sales of reusuable shopping bags with a sales price of $5.00 or
less.
(B)
For the purposes of this paragraph, 'reusable shopping bag' means a carrier bag
made of canvas, woven synthetic fibers, thick plastics, or other environmentally
safe, sustainable material that is designed to carry groceries or other products
on multiple shopping
occasions."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
