    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to instructional personnel in public
    3         schools; amending s. 1012.34, F.S.; providing that a
    4         teacher who is rated as effective or highly effective
    5         may retain his or her rating for 3 years upon
    6         volunteering at or transferring to a high-need or low
    7         performing school; providing an effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Present subsection (8) of section 1012.34,
   12  Florida Statutes, is redesignated as subsection (9), and a new
   13  subsection (8) is added to that section, to read:
   14         1012.34 Personnel evaluation procedures and criteria.—
   15         (8) PERFORMANCE RATING RETENTION.—A teacher who is rated as
   16  effective or highly effective and who volunteers at a high-need
   17  or low-performing school or who is transferred to a high-need or
   18  low-performing school may retain his or her rating for 3 years
   19  upon volunteering at or transferring to the high-need or low
   20  performing school.
   21         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2012.
