    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to dental licensing; amending s.
    3         466.006, F.S.; exempting certain internationally
    4         trained dentists from the requirement that an
    5         applicant for licensure must be a graduate of an
    6         accredited dental college or submit proof of having
    7         completed 2 consecutive academic years at an
    8         accredited dental school before being permitted to
    9         take the dental examination; providing an effective
   10         date.
   11          
   12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   13  
   14         Section 1. Subsection (3) of section 466.006, Florida
   15  Statutes, is amended to read:
   16         466.006 Examination of dentists.—
   17         (3) If an applicant is a graduate of a dental college or
   18  school not accredited in accordance with paragraph (2)(b) or of
   19  a dental college or school not approved by the board, the
   20  applicant is not entitled to take the examinations required in
   21  this section to practice dentistry:
   22         (a) Until she or he satisfies one of the following:
   23         1.(a) Completes a program of study, as defined by the board
   24  by rule, at an accredited American dental school and
   25  demonstrates receipt of a D.D.S. or D.M.D. from that said
   26  school; or
   27         2.(b) Submits proof of having successfully completed at
   28  least 2 consecutive academic years at a full-time supplemental
   29  general dentistry program accredited by the American Dental
   30  Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. The This program
   31  must provide didactic and clinical education at the level of a
   32  D.D.S. or D.M.D. program accredited by the American Dental
   33  Association Commission on Dental Accreditation; or
   34         (b) Unless he or she is an internationally trained dentist
   35  who holds an active license to practice dentistry full time in
   36  another state or territory of the United States, the District of
   37  Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and has been
   38  practicing dentistry full time for at least 2 consecutive years.
   39  Such license must be in good standing and not subject to a
   40  pending penalty.
   41         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2014.
