    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to medical specialty designations;
    3         amending s. 456.072, F.S.; prohibiting health care
    4         practitioners from using certain medical specialty
    5         designations in connection with their credentials
    6         unless they are qualified or authorized to do so;
    7         requiring the Department of Health to enforce such
    8         prohibition; vesting the department with specified
    9         enforcement authority; authorizing the department to
   10         adopt rules; providing an effective date.
   11          
   12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   13  
   14         Section 1. Paragraph (tt) is added to subsection (1) of
   15  section 456.072, Florida Statutes, to read:
   16         456.072 Grounds for discipline; penalties; enforcement.—
   17         (1) The following acts shall constitute grounds for which
   18  the disciplinary actions specified in subsection (2) may be
   19  taken:
   20         (tt) Using a term in connection with the licensee’s
   21  credentials which designates a medical specialty that the
   22  American Council for Graduate Medical Education accredits or
   23  recognizes through a residency or a fellowship program, unless
   24  the licensee has completed such residency or fellowship program
   25  or unless otherwise expressly authorized by law. The department
   26  shall enforce this paragraph and has the same enforcement
   27  authority as the applicable board. The department may adopt
   28  rules to implement this paragraph.
   29         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2022.
