    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing February 5-9, 2018, as Jewish
    3         American Heritage Week in Florida.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, nationally, Jewish American Heritage Month
    6  resulted from a congressional initiative launched in 2005 to
    7  recognize the more than 360-year history of Jewish contributions
    8  to North American culture, and
    9         WHEREAS, Jewish American Heritage Month has been
   10  commemorated since 2006 through educational programs coordinated
   11  by a number of government agencies, including the Library of
   12  Congress, the National Archives, and the United States Holocaust
   13  Memorial Museum, and
   14         WHEREAS, Jewish immigrants from around the world continue
   15  to journey to the State of Florida in search of hope, shelter,
   16  and the opportunity for a new beginning, and
   17         WHEREAS, Jewish Americans have made vital contributions to
   18  the development of our communities, academic institutions, civic
   19  organizations, and businesses, and
   20         WHEREAS, while contributing to every facet of American
   21  society, Jewish Americans have infused our nation’s civic,
   22  social, economic, and cultural life with their own unique
   23  culture, customs, and dynamic heritage, and
   24         WHEREAS, the faith and hard work of Jewish Americans have
   25  played an integral role in shaping the cultural fabric of this
   26  state, and
   27         WHEREAS, Jewish Americans have worked to promote civil
   28  rights and build bridges of mutual understanding between the
   29  world’s religions, and
   30         WHEREAS, during Jewish American Heritage Month the nation
   31  celebrates and honors the invaluable contributions of Jewish
   32  Americans to our way of life, and it is fitting that the proud
   33  history of Jewish Americans be recognized in this state, NOW,
   34  THEREFORE,

   36  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   38         That February 5-9, 2018, is recognized as Jewish American
   39  Heritage Week in Florida.
