2A resolution recognizing Jimmie Johnson for his
3achievements in the sport of stock car racing and for his
4humanitarian efforts through the Jimmie Johnson
5Foundation.

7 WHEREAS, Jimmie Johnson was born on September 17, 1975, in
8El Cajon, California, and began his career racing motorcycles at
9the age of five, and
10 WHEREAS, in 1998, Jimmie Johnson joined the American Speed
11Association racing circuit, thereafter began racing stock cars
12in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and by 2000 was a full-time
13NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, and
14 WHEREAS, in 2002, Jimmie Johnson started racing stock cars
15full time in the Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR's premier series, and
16 WHEREAS, behind the wheel of owner Rick Hendrick's #48
17Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet Impala SS, NASCAR Sprint Cup
18driver Jimmie Johnson won four consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup
19Series Championships in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009, and
20 WHEREAS, in 2006, Jimmie Johnson established the Jimmie
21Johnson Foundation, which has since raised more than $3 million
22to assist children, families, and communities in need throughout
23the United States, and
24 WHEREAS, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation has helped save tens
25of thousands of lives through blood and marrow drives and by
26assisting individuals in being added to the National Marrow
27Donor Program Registry, and
28 WHEREAS, Jimmie Johnson was named the 2009 Associated Press
29Male Athlete of the Year, and
30 WHEREAS, Florida and its residents enjoy a special bond
31with NASCAR, as the state is home to NASCAR's headquarters in
32Daytona Beach, the Daytona International Speedway, and the
33Homestead-Miami Speedway and serves as host to three annual
34NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, NOW, THEREFORE,

36Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
37Florida:

39 That it is fitting that 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
40Champion Jimmie Johnson is recognized for his hard work and
41excellence in the sport of stock car racing and for his
42invaluable humanitarian efforts through the Jimmie Johnson
43Foundation.
44 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
45presented to Jimmie Johnson as a tangible token of the
46sentiments expressed herein.
