A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to tax discounts; amending s. 197.162,
3F.S.; increasing the discount rate for early tax payments
4made within a specified time after mailing of the original
5tax notice; eliminating discounts for early tax payments
6made after a specified time; increasing the discount rate
7for tax payments made within a specified time after
8mailing of a tax notice resulting from the action of a
9value adjustment board; providing an effective date.

11Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13     Section 1.  Section 197.162, Florida Statutes, is amended
14to read:
15     197.162  Discounts; amount and time.-On all taxes assessed
16on the county tax rolls and collected by the county tax
17collector, a discount discounts for early payment thereof shall
18be at the rate of 10 4 percent in the month of November or at
19any time within 30 days after the mailing of the original tax
20notice; 3 percent in the month of December; 2 percent in the
21following month of January; 1 percent in the following month of
22February; and then no discount until zero percent in the
23following month of March or within 30 days before prior to the
24date of delinquency if the date of delinquency is after April 1.
25When a taxpayer makes a request to have the original tax notice
26corrected, the discount rate for early payment applicable at the
27time the request for correction is made shall apply for 30 days
28after the mailing of the corrected tax notice. A discount shall
29apply at the rate of 10 4 percent for 30 days after the mailing
30of a tax notice resulting from the action of a value adjustment
31board. Thereafter, the regular discount period periods shall
32apply. For the purposes of this section, when a discount period
33ends on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the discount
34period shall be extended to the next working day, if payment is
35delivered to a designated collection office of the tax
36collector.
37     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
