A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to special investigators; amending s.
327.251, F.S.; deleting a requirement that investigators be
4employed on a full-time basis; specifying matters that may
5be investigated by special investigators; providing an
6effective date.

8Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Section 27.251, Florida Statutes, is amended to
11read:
12 27.251 Special organized crime investigators.-The state
13attorney of each judicial circuit is authorized to employ any
14municipal or county police officer or sheriff's deputy on a
15full-time basis as an investigator for the state attorney's
16office with full powers of arrest throughout the judicial
17circuit provided such investigator serves on a special task
18force to investigate matters involving criminal activity the
19detection of which might benefit from a special task force
20organized crime, and, provided further, that the salary of such
21municipal or county police officer or sheriff's deputy shall be
22paid by the city, county, or sheriff by which the investigator
23is principally employed, and with the consent of the county,
24sheriff, or municipality. The arrest powers granted in this
25section may herein shall be exercised only in the furtherance of
26the conduct of the business of the special task force to which
27such municipal or county police officer or sheriff's deputy is
28assigned by the said state attorney.
29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
