DELAWARE STATE SENATE
152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 143
RECOGNIZING THURSDAY, APRIL 25, 2024, AS "TAKE OUR CHILDREN TO WORK DAY" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation established “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” in 1993 to build diversity in the workplace, raise public awareness of children’s issues, and provide adults with proactive strategies to help children remain resilient, especially in the world of work; and
WHEREAS, through their leadership, expertise, and collaborations, the Foundation advocates for changes in social policy and public awareness on behalf of children, and helps them to discover the power and possibilities of work and family life; and
WHEREAS, the partnerships and collaborations create work-based learning experiences to help young people better understand the connection between their academics and how they are applied in the real world and, as a result, children are motivated to explore the workplace and apply the experience to everyday studies and activities; and
WHEREAS, the experience exposes children to the diversity of employment opportunities and by seeing what their parents or guardians do at work, children can gain insights into various industries, roles, and responsibilities, which can help them make more informed decisions about their own future careers; and
WHEREAS, originally focused on girls to address gender disparities in the workplace, this day has evolved to include all children. By exposing children of all genders to diverse career options, the day helps promote gender equality and encourages children to pursue their interests and passions regardless of traditional gender norms; and
WHEREAS, “Take Our Children to Work Day” plays a valuable role in educating, inspiring, and empowering the next generation of workers, while also promoting inclusivity and family involvement in the workplace as well as providing children a chance to share how they envision the future; and
WHEREAS, “Take Our Children to Work Day” helps children sustain a positive and healthy self-image, broaden their understanding of the world around them, and establish goals and aspirations while overcoming societal barriers in order to reach their full potential.
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that April 25, 2024, is hereby recognized as “Take Our Children to Work Day.”
