SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 110
DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2024 AS “CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION MONTH” IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, the month of February 2024 has been designated Career and Technical Education Month ® by the Association for Career and Technical Education; and
WHEREAS, career and technical education (CTE) offers all students the opportunity to gain the academic, technical, and employability skills necessary for career readiness; and
WHEREAS, students in career and technical education programs participate in authentic, meaningful experiences that improve the quality of their education and increase their engagement and achievement; and
WHEREAS, career and technical education provides all students with career exploration opportunities earlier in their educational experience, which enables them to make informed and beneficial decisions about their academic coursework and pursue established programs of study and career pathways; and
WHEREAS, as of 2022, over 44,413 students were enrolled in CTE programs in Delaware; and
WHEREAS, CTE programs are offered in 41 out of 45 public high schools in Delaware, including its three technical school districts, 16 comprehensive or traditional school districts, 7 charter school districts and 2 state institutions serving at-risk youth; and
WHEREAS, according to the U.S. Department of Education, the 2022-2023 4-year graduation rate for secondary CTE programs in Delaware is 92%. For postsecondary CTE programs, Delaware’s post-program placement equates 86% with a wide range of potential career opportunities. This includes career pathway programs in architecture and construction, agriculture, food & natural resources, health sciences, manufacturing, and more; and
WHEREAS, leaders from business and industry from across the nation thereby report increasing challenges related to addressing the skills gap and connecting qualified professionals with available careers in critical and growing CTE-related fields, including healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, and information technology; and
WHEREAS, career and technical education prepares students for these and other fulfilling careers by offering integrated programs of study that link secondary and postsecondary education and lead to the attainment of industry-recognized credentials; and
WHEREAS, career and technical education programs ensure that employers have access to a qualified and thriving workforce, ensuring America is a strong and competitive economy.
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152 nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the Legislature affirms the importance of Career and Technical Education and hereby designates February 2024 as “Career and Technical Education Month” in the State of Delaware.
SYNOPSIS
This concurrent resolution designates February 2024 as “Career and Technical Education Month” in the State of Delaware to urge all citizens to become familiar with the services and benefits offered by the career and technical education programs in their communities, and to support and participate in these programs to enhance their individual skills and productivity.
