HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 25

CELEBRATING WOMEN IN PUBLIC OFFICE DAY IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the month of March is Women’s History Month and celebrates the significant contributions women of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds have made to the world; and

WHEREAS, women play a critical role in the vitality and diversity of our communities, and are essential to ensuring Delaware is well represented; and

WHEREAS, while the twentieth century was a pivotal time of growth for women entering politics, women remain underrepresented in male-dominated fields thus providing opportunities to support women in public office is imperative; and

WHEREAS, recognizing women in public office will bring awareness to the fundamental necessity of their work and will inspire other young people to serve their communities; and

WHEREAS, we want to take this opportunity to recognize Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester and Lt. Governor Bethany Hall Long; our women legislators by district, Representatives Stephanie T. Bolden (2 nd ), Helene M. Keeley (Speaker Pro Tempore,  3 rd ), Melanie George Smith (5 th ), Debra J. Heffernan (6 th ), Deborah D. Hudson (Minority Whip, 12 th ) , Valerie J. Longhurst (Majority Leader, 15 th ) , Kimberly A. Williams (19 th ), Andria Bennett (32nd), Ruth Briggs King (37 th ), Senators Margaret Rose Henry (Majority Leader, 2 nd ), Catherine L. Cloutier (5 th ), Stephanie L. Hansen (10 th ), and Nicole Poore (Majority Whip, 12 th ).

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that we hereby proclaim March 19 th to be Delaware Celebrating Women in Public Office Day and call upon the people of Delaware to unite as we support the success of women in public office and observe every March 19 th with appropriate activities, events, and programs.
