151st GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 20

ESTABLISHING FEBRUARY 18TH AS “LIFELONG EDUCATOR DAY” TO HONOR THE MEMORY AND CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF MRS. SUE BARBETTA, A FORMER TEACHER, AUTHOR, AND RUTHERFORD AND RED MILL FARMS RESIDENT.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Barbetta received her Bachelor’s degree in education from Marymount University, her Master’s degree in special education from Shippensburg University, and a diploma for outstanding creative writing from the Institute of Children’s Literature; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Barbetta wrote and published two children’s books, teaching her young readers the importance of being different, friendship, kindness, and responsible citizenship; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Barbetta took time away from the traditional school to tutor and home school neighborhood children while also serving as the president of her local community Civic Association; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Barbetta returned to the schoolhouse to teach in the Christiana School District for 18 years before retiring in July 2020; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Barbetta passed away in January of 2022; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Barbetta and all other lifelong educators in Delaware have influenced a countless number of lives through their teaching, mentoring, and support;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of the 151st General Assembly of the State of Delaware, that the entire membership does hereby honor the memory and celebrate the life of Sue Barbetta.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House extends heartfelt condolences to Mr. Bob Barbetta, Mr. Michael Barbetta, Mr. David Barbetta, Mrs. Christina Baker, and other family members and loved ones of Mrs. Barbetta.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitably prepared copies of this House Resolution be given to Mrs. Barbetta’s family upon its passage.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitably prepared copies of this House Resolution be given to Dan Shelton and Jennie E. Smith School.

SYNOPSIS

This House Resolution honors the memory and celebrates the life of Mrs. Sue Barbetta, who departed this life in January of the year 2022 by establishing February 18th as “Lifelong Educator Day”.
