148th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 15

RECOGNIZING MAY 15-17, 2015, AS "GRAND PRIX WEEKEND" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, Delaware was ranked the 5^th most bicycle friendly state in the United States in 2013; and

WHEREAS, bicycling is an accessible sport to people of all ages; and

WHEREAS, Delaware hosts the Wilmington Grand Prix, which has been named to USA Cycling's National Criterium Calendar for the 9^th straight year; and

WHEREAS, the attendance at the Wilmington Grand Prix has grown from 5,000 people in 2007 to 10,000 people in 2014; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Grand Prix has a positive economic impact on the City of Wilmington and the State of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Grand Prix has generated over $1.8 million in economic impact since 2012; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Grand Prix starts on May 15^th and ends on May 17^th this year; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware General Assembly has made a commitment to encouraging bicycling through investment in the First State Trails and Pathways; and

WHEREAS, bicycling is the official sport of the State of Delaware;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 148^th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that May 15-17, 2015 is recognized as "Grand Prix Weekend", and residents and visitors are encouraged to attend and participate in the Wilmington Grand Prix.

This resolution recognizes May 15-17, 2015 as "Grand Prix Weekend".
