HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 8

RECOGNIZING THE CAI/EASTER SEALS VOLLEYBALL CHALLENGE.

WHEREAS, Easter Seals has been providing services and support to people with disabilities or special needs and their families for more than 60 years, whether those disabilities or needs occurred at birth or resulted from traumatic injury, disease, or the aging process; and

WHEREAS, Easter Seals Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore supports thousands of children and adults each year through direct and indirect services such as physical, occupational and speech therapies, employment, assistive technology, day programs for adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, caregiver support programs, and year-round camping and recreational services; and

WHEREAS, since 2001, Easter Seals has raised more than $3.1 million through the Volleyball Challenge, providing much-needed funding for services for children and adults with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Democratic and Republican legislators have competed against one another for the past eight years to raise awareness and raise funds while engaging in a good-natured rivalry for a good cause; and

WHEREAS, the Republicans are up five games to three games in the Legislative Cup series; and

WHEREAS, the Democrats and Republicans have raised over $30,000 in the past six years for Easter Seals.

NOW THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 147th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the CAI/Easter Seals Volleyball Challenge held on March 8-10, 2013 receives appropriate recognition.

SYNOPSIS

This concurrent resolution recognizes the CAI/Easter Seals Volleyball Challenge held on March 8-10, 2013, an event that raises funds for an organization providing services and support to people with disabilities or special needs and their families in Delaware.
