JOINING THE FOOD BANK OF DELAWARE IN THE "148 FOR THE 148TH" FOOD DRIVE. |
WHEREAS, the Food Bank of Delaware has successfully developed and implemented programming for more than a quarter of all Delawareans; and
WHEREAS, the Food Bank of Delaware has provided, and will continue to provide, nutritious foods to Delawareans in need; and
WHEREAS, the Food Bank of Delaware has facilitated, and will continue to facilitate, efforts for long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, last year, the Food Bank of Delaware distributed approximately 6.2 million pounds of food through its 550 partner networks in the Hunger-Relief Partnership Program; and
WHEREAS, historically, the months of January, February, and March have been the time of the lowest food donations to the Food Bank of Delaware – despite these months also being among the coldest of the year, when the services of the Food Bank of Delaware are called on even more often; and
WHERAS, members of the General Assembly and the Food Bank of Delaware have collaborated to develop a food drive to benefit the Food Bank of Delaware during these months; and
WHERAS, this food drive will also feature a variety of community partners, including the Delaware Food Industry Council and Delaware Technical Community College; and
WHEREAS, this food drive seeks to reach donations of 148,000 pounds of food or $148,000, or a combination thereof, during the first three months in 2016, the second year of the 148th General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, the Food Bank of Delaware will assist the General Assembly in maintaining a donation tracker in the lobby of Legislative Hall, where members and guests could see the combined, ongoing progress;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the General Assembly shall participate in the "148 for the 148th" Food Drive, in an effort to reach donations of 148,000 pounds of food or $148,000, or a combination thereof, during the first three months in 2016.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Legislators are urged to reach out to friends, constituents, local organizations and other Delawareans participate in the Legislature's and the Food Bank of Delaware's "148 for the 148th" Food Drive.
SYNOPSIS
This concurrentresolution outlines the General Assembly joining with the Food Bank of Delaware in the "148 in the 148th" Food Drive, with the goal of reaching 148,000 pounds of food or $148,000, or a combination thereof, by March 31, 2016. The "148 in the 148th" Food Drive would be supported by the Delaware Food Industry Council as well as Delaware Technical Community College, which is incorporating this drive as part of its community service outreach. |
