AN ACT CONCERNING AVAILABILITY OF THE DRUG AND ALCOHOL EDUCATION CLASS REQUIRED FOR AN OPERATOR'S LICENSE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended effective July 1, 2015, to allow a licensed driver's education instructor to offer and teach the Department of Motor Vehicles' required eight-hour drug and alcohol education class to the public through adult education classes, nonprofit organizations, or municipal outlets at reduced rates or no charge. In addition, not later than July 1, 2015, all certified driver's education schools shall offer an online version of the eight-hour drug and alcohol education class for a fee that is not more than fifty per cent of the fee for in-person instruction.

Statement of Purpose:

To allow more opportunity and access to those in need of acquiring a Connecticut driver's license.
