AN ACT CONCERNING THE LENGTH OF PRETRIAL DETENTION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 54-53a of the general statutes be amended to provide that any person being detained for the commission of a misdemeanor who has not made bail shall not be detained for a period of time that exceeds the maximum term of imprisonment authorized for such misdemeanor.

Statement of Purpose:

To create a more rational criminal justice system.
