AN ACT PERMITTING CERTAIN STATE AGENCIES TO HIRE INDEPENDENT COUNSEL.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to permit any state agency within the Office of Governmental Accountability charged with overseeing state agency misconduct or other state agency violations of statutory requirements to hire independent counsel rather than be represented by the Attorney General in any action to which the overseeing agency is a party.

Statement of Purpose:

To give greater autonomy to the watchdog agencies by permitting them to hire outside counsel.
