AN ACT CONCERNING FOSTER CHILDREN AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2013) (a) For purposes of this section, "preference" means priority over similarly qualified applicants.

(b) Each state agency shall give preference in hiring for or placement in an internship at such state agency to any individual up to twenty-four years of age who is or was, at the age of majority, in the custody of the Commissioner of Children and Families and placed in foster care.

Sec. 2. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2013) (a) Notwithstanding any provisions of this act, nothing shall require any hiree to request foster child status or any applicant to disclose his or her status as a foster child.

(b) Nothing in this section shall be construed to give a hiree or an applicant the right to pursue a cause of action in a court of competent jurisdiction for the violation of any provision of this section.
