AN ACT CONCERNING BREAST ULTRASOUND SCREENINGS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That title 38a of the general statutes be amended to prohibit health insurers and health care centers from (1) imposing a coinsurance, copayment, deductible or other out-of-pocket expense for ultrasound screening of an entire breast or breasts if a mammogram demonstrates heterogeneous or dense breast tissue, and (2) applying the cost of such ultrasound screening to annual or lifetime benefit limits under a health insurance policy providing coverage of the types specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (11) and (12) of section 38a-469 of the general statutes.
Statement of Purpose:
To allow women with heterogeneous or dense breast tissue to obtain an ultrasound screening with no out-of-pocket expense.
