AN ACT CONCERNING THE PENALTY FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. Section 53a-192a of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2011):

(a) A person is guilty of trafficking in persons when such person commits coercion as provided in section 53a-192 and the other person is compelled or induced to (1) engage in conduct that constitutes a violation of section 53a-82, or (2) provide labor or services.

(b) Trafficking in persons is a class B felony and any person found guilty under this section shall be sentenced to a term of imprisonment of which two years of the sentence imposed may not be suspended or reduced by the court.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:

To provide a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for the crime of trafficking in persons.
